| To Get There: To paddle the run, bring a pick-up or other 4x4 (to park and play at the Put in Wave, it’s not required). Turn at Mclean road (left turn) after you come up the hill after crossing the Cottonwood River, approx 12km before Quesnel. Turn left again when you get to the Barkerville Highway, when you go up a hill that has two lanes going up start looking at signs. It is the first right after the 11 mile frontage road. There are remains of a gate there. Then head down to the gravel pit. When you get to the pit go left for the put in, right for the take out. Run is about 4kms long. Flow Information: "Quesnel R near Quesnel " station. The prime level for aerials is from about 3.00 to 3.10.Also, 2.9 is pretty good too. The Wave: It’s a wave in the "Big Leagues" like Brilliant and The Frog. It is a combination of green wave, and green wave with a nice pile. Any of the newer school wave moves are possible. There is a big eddy to catch on river left, but the wave is on the right. If you miss the left eddy, you can catch a lower eddy on the right, and walk back up. It’s a big volume river, with some bigger eddy-lines etc. so not the best place for beginners, unless they have a really solid role. A swim might go downstream a little ways. Spencer Cox. |
